Class Descriptions

Not sure what class is the best fit for you and your pup? This 30-minute evaluation with a trainer will help narrow down the class that best fits your goals and current skill level.

Puppy training classes teach the foundation for basic functional skills such as sit, down and come and provide the opportunity to socialize with other puppies and people. After completing this class, you and your puppy can earn their AKC S.T.A.R Puppy certificate.

This course is designed to build upon the foundation you may have established in puppy class or on your own. Over the next 5 weeks, we will cover building and maintaining a healthy relationship, verbal and physical commands and building trust and respect between you and your dog. We will work on the foundation of commands such as: sit, down, bed, come, leave it, focus, greet and heel.

This course will run at a faster pace than our puppy and basic classes. We will continue to build a strong foundation for commands and will cover the process of proofing. This course will challenge you and your dog as you work on commands in a variety of challenging environments.

Great opportunity to fine tune your immediate level commands and hold your pup accountable.  Also, the class will cover fundamentals in the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program. This class will prepare you for the CGC evaluation if you and your pup are ready.

This class will provide safe opportunities for dog/handler teams to gain proper and healthy exposure to real world situations in a controlled environment. We will help your pup grow their confidence through textures, environments, and courses. This class is designed to challenge you (and you may find it frustrating) but it is imperative to remain patient and calm as you and your dog work through stressful situations.

You and your animal will practice all the fundamentals such as basic obedience, working around mobility equipment, proper greetings, and dealing with unexpected situations. You will learn how to be an advocate for you and your animal in therapy work.

Prerequisite: Must have completed obedience classes up to intermediate classes with TWA Training Center. If not, you will need a class/obedience evaluation to qualify. Evaluation is an additional cost.

AKC’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program is a certification that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and the community.  This class will prepare you for the evaluation.

Do something fun with your dog and earn AKC Novice & Intermediate certification. Each week you’ll get a chance to demonstrate the tricks your dog mastered and continue to learn new ones such as balance beam, crawl, find it, hand signals, high five, jump, kiss, paws up, spin, and much more. In your last class you and your pup will be able to earn your AKC Trick Titles!

Think of an AKC Rally event as any team sport: You and your dog navigate a course, side-by-side, as you steer him through a course of 10-20 different signs. Each of these signs provides instructions regarding the next skill that is to be performed. Due to this being for fun, we will add some agility equipment into the course.

Are you interested in starting scent work with your dog? The sport of Scent Work celebrates the joy of sniffing, and asks a dog to sniff to their heart’s content; turning your dog’s favorite activity into a rewarding game. It is a terrific sport for all kinds of dogs, and is a wonderful way to build confidence in a shy dog. The class will start with the scent – “birch”.

Prerequisite: Must have gone through basic obedience class.

This class will teach your dog to navigate more challenging environment and scent skills.  Your dog will be exposed to boxes, sand, interior and exterior finds.

Prerequisite: Completed Level 1 Introduction to Scent Work at Tail Waggin Training Center.

These are individual one time classes that are offered typically in the Summer months, or sprinkled throughout the year. These are great activities to do for fun, to brush up on skills, or to test if you would enjoy the full 5-week course.
